Padparadscha Sapphire

Padparadscha Sapphire, 1.11 ct.

As almost everyone we work with knows, we seldom stock padparadschas because 99.99% of padparadschas on the market either have color issues that outright disqualify them from this category, or are included, or are impossible to recut into perfect cuts due to how badly they are always cut in order to preserve their colors.

We’ve recut various pads over the years and lost color in the process, so it really takes the stars to align to find a padparadscha that ticks all the boxes:

- A clear mix of pink and orange, distinctly visible when comparing to similar pink and orange sapphires in person

- Not too much or too little saturation, in keeping with traditionally strict criteria

- No purple, brown, red or yellow undertones or tints

- No bad cutting, no matter what

- No windows, no heavy pavilions, no “potato” cuts with bad shape or facet placement all over

- Completely eye clean close up

Our quality criteria for padparadscha basically mean that we can offer just one stone every several years, but when we do, the above is it.

Google can attest to the near-impossibility of finding padparadschas that are of the right color, clean and well cut to boot.

Color + clarity are still possible to some degree, but to our knowledge we’re just about the only people online willing to take the risk to get a perfect cut for this, the rarest of all sapphire species – so the stone above is truly something special, and not something we’d likely be able to offer again anytime soon.
