A very well cut unheated sapphire that turned out a very unusual color for the variety. The rough was actually dark reddish brown, so getting bright pinkish brown with plenty of brilliance after cutting was definitely a big surprise.
The stone is completely, entirely eye clean close up despite the fields of tiny crystals visible in the close up macro photos.
Its color shifts a lot depending on the surrounding light: it can look skin colored, mauve, pinkish brown, brownish pink or even greenish-greyish brown (under a clear blue sky). It reflects its surroundings a lot, but the photos show it in its “base” color as seen in diffused daylight outdoors. It’s the sort of color one would sooner expect to see in makeup products than in a natural sapphire.
