Green Sapphire

Green Sapphire, 1.09 ct.

A bluish green, super bright and beautiful green sapphire. Viewed in indirect daylight outside, it has nearly no extinction at all.

Its color is exceptionally pleasant: unlike commercial green sapphires, it has no brown or grey and isn’t dim or sleepy in the slightest. Just pure bluish green, bright and clear.

All of this, however, is the result of trying rather than random chance as it was recut twice from its initial weight of 1.40-odd carats to get it to this point. Once because it had a window, and a second time to unify the color as much as possible. Sapphire recuts are always risky color-wise, but in this case it’s 2:0 for the hue vs. the cutting lap – the color is even nicer now than it was to begin with.

The visibility of the blue patch in the stone changes depending on how it’s oriented: it can either look distinct, or blend right into the rest of the color.
